South overcame difficult playing conditions to secure their second successive victory at a damp and blustery Ipplepen CC.

Having lost the toss and unsurprisingly being asked to bat first on a soft track, South made a solid start with George Holland striking a couple of early boundaries before the pacey Worth knocked over Harry Senior in the 5^th over. After Holland suffered a similar fate in the 9^th over, South then lost their captain Ashley Causey to an LBW decision in favour of the spinner Horn. The Devon player did not look impressed with the decision, but when Goodman followed his captain back later in the same over, South were in a little trouble at 60/4.

A good partnership was need for the South to post a competitive score, and they found what they were looking for as Szymanski and Flower piled on the runs in the middle overs. Szymanski was the main threat, taking a particular liking for the leg spin of Horn and hitting 3 balls out of the ground. However the spinner finally got his man as Szymanski popped up a catch to depart for a vital 43.

With 16 overs still to play, there was a test for the South lower order but their batters responded well as Flower (13) and Bullock (19*) helped the total to 156/8 at the end of the overs. Worth was the pick of the bowlers with 3/36 from 8 overs and Horn picked up the prized wickets of Causey and Szymanski in final figures of 3/52 from his 8. Widdecombe also helped his side to contain the South with figures of 1/6 from 5 overs.

After another heavy shower, the West started their innings with the South bowlers struggling to acclimatise to the conditions. However after a few sighters, Szymanski found his line and set about reducing the West top order as Payne lost his leg stump before a stunning return catch accounted for the dangerous-looking Worth. Goodman bowled a tight line replacing South captain Causey who took himself off after 2 wayward overs, and after Szymanski claimed 2 wickets in successive balls, the West looked in deep trouble at 38/5 with just 10 overs bowled. There was a brief rally from the West as Horn made a breezy 15 and Dunlop a composed 12, but the lower order batters perished to some indifferent strokes coupled with good catching from the South. While completed business for the South, pouching a running catch to give Hingston the final wicket from just his second ball.
